The cover image sums up life with kids who watch Peppa Pig perfectly. Kids are obsessed with this cartoon on Nick Jr., mine included. My daughter has loved this show for a little over a year now, and she's recently converted my baby boy into a follower. He goes as far as to bring me the TV remote and softly sing, "Pehhhhhhh" (if you know the song at the end of the show, you'll understand!), which apparently is his way of asking to watch it. I think the show is adorable, even if it does make my kids speak in an English accent, but over the years I've discovered a lot of parents hate this show and go as far as banning their kids from watching it, and I couldn't understand why. Apparently those parents believe Peppa is a selfish brat who is a bad influence for their kids. Oh please! Relax, Nancy. Peppa isn't a brat, she's a TODDLER, and all toddlers are selfish brats, please don't try and deny it.
My son is a toddler. Therefore, he's an asshole. He's selfish, he doesn't always listen, he's bratty... he's Peppa fucking Pig! This is the toddler way. Toddlers are just really learning how to behave in a world which is still pretty new and complicated to them, and it's our job to help guide and teach them, which is exactly what Peppa's parents do in the show. One example from the show that crosses into my family's life is when Peppa and her brother, George are at the playground. George needs to be pushed on the swing, and Peppa offers to do it. Mummy Pig reminds Peppa not to push her brother too high, to which she agrees, but what does she end up doing anyway? Pushing him too high until he cries to get down. The first time we ever brought my son to the playground, my daughter wanted to push her brother in the swing, and she also ended up pushing him too high after I told her not to. She was only 3 at the time. This, my mom and dad friends, is not kids being brats, it's them being toddlers.
Bottom line, Peppa Pig is a realistic cartoon (an oxymoron, I know) with short, simple life lessons geared more towards toddlers. This is why our young kids love this show. It's easy for them to understand and learn from. So un-clench your ass cheeks and let them enjoy some quality kids programming. I happen to know some of you let your kids watch The Walking Dead, so you know...people in glass houses........
