The Back Talk

It was bound to happen. My 4 year old has begun to talk back to me, and I’m not gonna lie, it’s pretty annoying. It started subtly, with her casually mumbling, “that’s not fair,” or “you’re not being nice” after I’ve told her “no” to something. Now it has progressed to full on, hands-on-hip screaming “NO! I WON’T DO IT” right in my face. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve sent her to her room in the past month. The attitude is just....when did she start turning into me?!

Last week, I had finally had enough, and I snapped. We were on the car headed to daycare, I don’t even remember why she was mad that morning. She loudly declared, “You ruined my life!”

Let me reiterate, I snapped. I wasn’t thinking clearly, I was just so annoyed, and I said the first thing that popped head:

“Yeah, well, you ruined my vagina, so I guess we’re even!”

Did I mention parenting isn’t always easy?
